Donzoko
The only Japanese tavern you need to know.

Bamboos, oversized sake bottles, poorly lit and they even play ancient japanese songs in the background, talk about atmosphere! A breathtaking sake list featuring anything from the unfiltered stuff to the very best premium junmai daiginjo. Sushi is excellent, almost approaching perfection. Try their signature donzoko soba and notice the bouncy freshness of the noodles, but avoid the grilled stuff altogether. This is as close as you'll get to Uma Thurman meeting Hattori Hanzo in Japan.

Goldmine of authentic flavours
If you set foot in Japan long enough to eat, you may find frustration when eating in Japanese restaurants elsewhere. It's just not the same. A friend of mine once asked, "You eat sushi?" I said, "Yes, but it's hard to find really good-" he cut me off. "Get in the cab". DonZoko was our destination and I still kind of feel I owe him my firstborn for that meal. It's not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for. I didn't mind the grilled the first time, but it's a waste of space in your belly.
