Forget the London Eye, this is my tip for a stunning view of London. Vertigo is 42 floors high and you will need to book for entry, be prepared for a stomach churning ride in the lift to the top. Ask for a west facing view, this will take in the River Thames and beyond. The décor is modern and slick with first class airport lounge furnishings. Wine and Champagne isn’t cheap but the crowd is city and media types with a limitless expense account. A great starting point for a night in the capital.

Go for champagne cocktails just as the dusk is settling over London and the lights are coming on. And if you can't get in to Vertigo the bar on floor 24 has just as great views. You have to ring in advance and give your name for security reasons so you get let up to the floor.
