Helen Hanff’s book, 84 Charing Cross Road, recounts the story of her correspondence with English bookseller Frank Doel who, for 25 years, found her rare and obscure books she couldn’t find in her native New York. Unfortunately, the bookstore on 84 Charing Cross Road was knocked down in the 1970s, so this isn’t a recommendation at all, but I thought it might save you some time in case you went looking, and if you haven’t read the book, I can definitely recommend that.
